Semenology

Semen analysis is the most important test for assessing male fertility(Male Infertility Treatment). The count, motility (activity) and morphology (structure) of the sperm in the semen give valuable information on whether a man has impaired fertility. However, the semen test is very subjective and needs to be done by a well-trained person. At NOVA IVI Fertility, all semenologists are specialists in semen analysis. A semen sample should be given for testing after three days of sexual abstinence. The sample is best collected by masturbation in the laboratory, but if there is difficulty in collecting the sample then alternative methods are available.

Sperm DNA fragmentation test

This is a specialized sperm function test that assesses the quality of the genetic material in the sperm. In some men, the sperm count and motility seem adequate but the internal quality of the sperm may be deficient. This can be assessed by evaluating the sperm DNA. This test is prescribed in cases where there has been a failure of previous IVF cycles, recurrent abortions, unexplained infertility,Male Infertility Treatment or borderline semen parameters with uncertain quality.

Specialized Tests

We offer comprehensive male fertility testing(Male Infertility Treatment), sperm evaluation and processing IVF. This is facilitated by advanced microscopic and videographic equipment. Some of the specialized tests performed at the Fertility Center are listed below:

  • Sperm Morphology Classification

  • Sperm Viability Testing

  • Azoospermia Testing and Treatment

Surgical Sperm Retrieval

The main methods of surgical sperm retrieval available include:

  • PESA: percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration.

  • MESA: microsurgical epididymal sperm aspiration.

  • TESA: testicular sperm aspiration. This includes testicular fine needle aspiration (TFNA).

  • TESE: testicular sperm extraction.

  • Microdissection TESE.

  • Perc biopsy: percutaneous biopsy of the testis.

Which method is used depends on the nature of the problem in the male partner, which needs to be explored carefully first.

Female Infertility Treatment

We offer comprehensive Female Infertility Treatment.

Endoscopy

Endoscopy is a procedure where a thin, lighted tube (Endoscope) is inserted into the uterus to examine it for infections, diseases or any abnormalities. The two frequently carried out endoscopy procedures are Hysteroscopy and

Laparoscopy.

Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy is the inspection of the uterine cavity by endoscopy with access through the cervix. It allows for the diagnosis of intrauterine pathology and serves as a method for surgical intervention (operative hysteroscopy).

Laparoscopy

In gynecology, diagnostic laparoscopy may be used to inspect the outside of the uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes, for example in the diagnosis female infertility. Usually, there is one incision near the navel and a second near to the pubic hairline.

We also offer following treatments:

  • Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI)

  • In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

How can counselling help?

In counselling it is possible to talk through our feelings about our infertility and its treatment; its success or failure – as well as other things that are happening in our lives which are causing us stress and distress. Expressing painful feelings can often help to relieve the pain and we can feel less alone, less burdened.

It is not a weakness to talk about how bad we feel at times, to grieve openly for what we’ve lost. In fact, it is positive and healthy and can actually reduce our stress levels.

Counselling allows us to do this in a safe environment where you will never be judged or thought silly. And it is confidential. Counselling is a positive process, aimed at increasing your power and sense of control while you are going through a treatment program that can so often make you feel powerless and out of control. It can be a way of taking care of yourself while undergoing treatment at Santaan, and the medical team actively encourages couples to do this.

Couples who are infertile and who are coping with the trauma of treatment are dealing with loss – often more loss than many people have to deal with in a lifetime. The counselling process can help people to work through their grief, help them to mourn their loss and begin to find new ways forward.

Dietician and Nutrition Counselling

A good diet is a combination of balance and common sense. You should ensure you are eating at least five servings of fruit and vegetables per day and preferably 8-10 servings for vitamins, minerals, trace elements and antioxidants. Here is a list of food groups that you need to consider while planning your meal for the day:

  • Fruit

  • Vegetables

  • Proteins (chicken, oily fish & dried beans)

  • Grains (Bread, cereals, rice, pasta etc)

  • Dairy Foods which contain calcium (Milk, cheese & Yogurt)

An important point to remember is that anything in excess is bad for health. Measured and balanced portions are the key to a good diet. Dietician and Nutrition Counselling.
